OpenLiteracy is trademarked as OpenLiteracy, so OPENLITERACY or OPEN LITERACY won't work.
I'm not interested in OpenLiteracy being known as OL, so logos incorporating this won't work.

Am looking for something that feels contemporary and modern. Literacy is so much more than a book -- it's knowledge -- listening, speaking, reading, writing. I like the favicon currently at Openliteracy.com but haven't figured out a way to make it work with a logo.

Black and serif fonts won't work -- need much more modern colors.

I'm trying to avoid the obvious theme of a book -- I am open to it, but was trying for something that got more at knowledge generation -- opening up access to knowledge -- rather than just a book. There is an existing logo at openliteracy.com -- you can see the favicon has an O that is somewhat modern that I like.

I'm also trying to avoid primary colors -- teachers are often sold too in primary colors and it feels sort of juvenile rather than going for something more contemporary like oranges and greens and slate blues.

Questions about how to get your own unique logo design?

Can I use the same design contest process for more than just logo design?
Yes! We've had many happy customers use our process to create great business websites as well as business cards and stationery.
How many design entries will I get to choose from?
At the moment we average over 125 designs per contest. This number varies depending on the prize amount and goes up dramatically if you are actively providing quality feedback. More feedback = more designs!
I really like a specific concept, but need to get a few tweaks done... is that ok?
Yes! After you select the winner of your contest you can ask for finishing touches from the winning designer until you are 100% satisfied.
